The master lock is considered as the master of all locks. This is because it provides the highest level of security. Have you ever wondered what you should do when you lose the keys of the lock? Here are some of the things that you can do:
Have a backup plan
Most master locks come with two or three keys. This means that you always have a spare key to use. If you had placed the spare key somewhere else other than inside the house, you should get it and use it to open the lock.
If you know the number on the key you should visit your local hardware store and ask them to give you another key. You should note that you need to know the number that was on the original key.
Pick the lock
If you don’t have a spare key and you can’t remember the number on the key you should consider picking the lock.
You should straighten a paper clip and then bend the tip down so that it attains an angle of 45 degrees. If you don’t have a wrench in your house you should use a pen as a wrench. Here you should break off the metal clip and then bend it slightly.
While turning the lock so that the large end of the key is on the top, you should insert the bent end of the tension wrench into the large end of the key insert. After this you should insert the bent end of the paper clip under the tension wrench and then exert some pressure as you wiggle the paper clip up and down.
Cut the lock
If you are not planning of using the lock in the future, you should cut it. The best tool to use is the bolt cutter. You should place the bolt cutter on the part of the master lock that is attached to the object and then cut there.
If you can’t find a bolt cutter you should consider using a hacksaw. While the hacksaw is effective in its working, it usually makes a lot of noise. It also tends to be very slow.
These are some of the things that you can do if you lose the keys of your master lock. If you have tried all of the above options and failed to remove the lock, you should call a locksmith to help you out.
