One of the main reasons why people look for ways to do things themselves is because they want or need to save money. With the economy as bad as it is this has never been more true, even for things like pest control. Below are just a couple reasons why you should consider doing it yourself. Most people don’t know that they have the option of doing it themselves, but they do, as long as they are only treating their own property.
It’s A Good Way to Save Money
Doing your own pest control is a great way to save you some serious money. Now you may not save yourself a lot of time but that’s all relative. I’ll give you a personal example. About four years ago my business partner and I purchased an investment property to rehab and flip. It was a nice three bedroom two bath house in an up and coming neighborhood. During inspection the general contractor noticed some termite damage on the patio deck and we were told that he feared that there could be more. We called around to a few reputable name brand pest control companies and the prices they quoted to us was downright absurd and as far as I am concerned obscene. So we took it upon ourselves to simply look at training videos on how to spot further damage and what products were best to use to eradicate the problem. By doing this we saved ourselves a lot of unnecessary headaches and more importantly a lot of money that we then used to redo a major portion of the patio.
Pest Control Companies Can Be Greedy Too
It’s very important that as homeowners or renters you realize that like any other business pest control companies are in it to make as much of a profit as possible. We have seen cases where certain pest control companies have tried to intimidate a homeowner or scare them into believing that there is no way that they can possibly get the job done to the extent that they can. This is of course is complete nonsense because the internet is absolutely flooded with training videos and recommendations for pest control products that are the exact same or the equivalent of many of the products that they use to perform their jobs. Doing your own pest control just makes a lot more sense than hiring professionals to come in and do the same thing while raping your wallet. The only area where there should be some concern on the part of those who are doing their own pest control would be the handling of dangerous chemicals. However, the directions are straightforward and by law all of these chemicals are clearly labeled and contain simple instructions on how to handle them even without professional experience or knowledge!
Still hesitant about do it yourself pest control? Some of you may be thinking, “I’d just feel more comfortable if there was a professional here to teach me.” Good news! There is! Just hop on YouTube and search “do it yourself pest control.” Pest control professionals have videos from teaching you how to control termites to exactly how to mix specific chemicals to create your own pesticides at home. You can have professional knowledge without the heavy drain on your wallet.
In today’s economic climate there is just no way that anyone shouldn’t consider saving themselves tons of money to address something as simple as eliminating pests. Now if you have a snake problem, alligator issue, or bumblebee problem then by all means contact the nearest professional you can find and pay them to risk their life and body to remove the problem. But this would be the exception to the rule.
